Summary of Rad Power Bikes RadRunner Plus
This bike is a game-changer! About a year ago, I visited their headquarters in Seattle and checked out the original RadRunner, but this new Plus model is a whole different beast. The standout feature? The passenger package, including a mocha-colored matching saddle, skirt guards, pegs, and fenders. Plus, it has an upgraded LCD display that shows max speed, average speed, and more. Oh, and don’t forget the USB charging port at the bottom—perfect for powering your phone or extra lights.
Let’s talk lights! The RadRunner Plus comes with a premium headlight that looks like a power button, super bright with side windows for better visibility. It even has a rock protector, reminiscent of those old KC lights on pickup trucks. On the drivetrain side, you get a seven-speed setup, which, in my opinion, is totally worth the extra $500 over the standard RadRunner. The added suspension fork is fantastic, providing 80mm of travel and a compression clicker for lockout.
The tires are custom 20×3.3 inch Kenda K-Rad tires with reflective sidewall stripes and puncture protection. These tires give you excellent comfort and stability, especially if you’re on loamy or sandy terrain. You can lower the PSI for more comfort, recommended at 30 but can be adjusted as needed.
Now, let’s dive into the suspension fork. It features a hydraulic lockout and preload adjust, making it adaptable for different weights and terrains. The frame also has an upgraded design with a suspension-corrected geometry, making it feel stable and comfortable even with the suspension fork. The battery, which is the same as used on other Rad Power bikes, is located low and center on the frame, ensuring good weight distribution.
The RadRunner Plus also comes with a passenger setup, compatible with various accessories like pannier bags and child seats. It even has a “YEP” window for a child seat, making it a versatile utility bike. You can add a console bucket in the middle, perfect for carrying pets or gear.
One thing I love about this bike is its aesthetic. The silver metallic paint and glossy black accents look sleek. They’ve smartly placed black accents where the frame might get kicked, keeping it looking sharp. The frame also includes bottle cage bosses, which you can use for a water bottle or a folding lock.
The RadRunner Plus is built to last with features like a high-power controller, aluminum alloy skid plate, and thoughtful design elements like a rear-mounted kickstand and ergonomic grips. The brakes are Tektro Aries mechanical disc brakes with motor inhibitors, providing reliable stopping power. The integrated bell is a nice touch too.
Overall, the RadRunner Plus is a fun, versatile, and stylish e-bike that offers great value for its price. Whether you’re riding solo or with a passenger, it’s designed to handle various terrains and conditions, making it a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable ride.
