Canyon Grail On Cf 8

Summary

CF 8, a fantastic speed pedelec and gravel grinder that’s making waves. We recently took it for a spin in Vail, Colorado, and here’s what we discovered.

The Canyon Grail

CF 8, priced at $5,800, is the more affordable sibling of the $7,000 eTap version. The eTap features SRAM electronic shifting, deep-dish carbon fiber wheels, and a distinct color. Both versions pack impressive components, but the CF 8 shines with its Bosch Performance Line Speed motor, which is exclusively available in the US. In Europe and Canada, a similar model with the Bosch CX motor is available.

Weighing in at just 37.3 pounds, the Grail

CF 8 is remarkably light for an e-bike. The weight distribution is superb, thanks to the Bosch PowerTube 500 battery integrated into the down tube and the motor positioned at the bottom. This setup ensures excellent handling, even when riding hands-free.

One of the standout features is the iconic double-decker handlebar, crafted from carbon fiber. This design provides multiple hand positions for varying levels of comfort and aerodynamics. It’s especially beneficial for riders with back and neck sensitivities, offering an upright position for relaxed cruising and a more aggressive stance for tackling gravel trails.

The bike also boasts a carbon fiber fork and seat post, both designed to dampen vibrations and enhance ride comfort. The seat post, in particular, is engineered to provide a cushioning effect similar to a suspension seat post, making off-road rides much more pleasant.

Despite its high step-over height, the Grail

CF 8 comes in seven frame sizes, from 2XS to 2XL, ensuring a perfect fit for riders of different heights. The frame and even the crank arms are made from carbon fiber, though the rims are aluminum alloy. If you’re willing to spend more, the eTap version offers carbon fiber rims.

The bike is equipped with Shimano GRX hydraulic disc brakes featuring ICE-Tech rotors for efficient heat dissipation and enhanced braking performance. The wheels are quick-release with 12mm thru-axles, providing added stiffness and ease of maintenance. The Schwalbe G-One Bite TLE tires are tubeless-ready, designed for gravel riding with a size of 700c for medium to XXL frames and 650b for the smaller sizes.

Powered by a Bosch Purion display, the bike offers various assist levels, including Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo, with range estimates displayed for each. The display also includes a walk mode, which is handy for pushing the bike uphill. The Bosch motor provides up to 340% assist, making climbs a breeze and ensuring you can tackle any terrain with confidence.

The Canyon Grail

CF 8 is a purpose-built machine that excels in both performance and comfort. Whether you’re cruising on pavement, grinding gravel, or hitting single-track trails, this bike handles it all with style and efficiency. With a six-year warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee, it’s a solid investment for any serious rider.
